The Prime Minister has announced a £200m investment package for Grangemouth aimed at developing a long-term clean energy transition plan for the former oil refinery site, with a focus on providing skills and training to the local workforce.
Complex sites and local electricity supply
The South West Net Zero Hub recently commissioned a study to identify whether the 'complex sites' approach to local electricity supply can provide additional income for renewable generators.
The feasibility of this approach was tested using solar and wind projects being developed by Southampton Council and Bath and West Community Energy. The study found that the benefits of setting up a ‘complex’ site around a renewable generator are increased income for the generator and reduced energy bills for the consumers.
