FUTURE READY QUARTERLY GATHERING

Future Ready Quarterly Gathering: Ipswich

The Future Ready community met once again in Ipswich last week for another fantastic couple of days of collaboration and training.

We engaged with inspiring project showcases from local representatives Great Yarmouth Borough Council, followed by Fife Council, Devon County Council and Leicestershire County Council. Breakout discussions focused on the asks and offers of support the community can share with one another. Recap on the presentations and discussion topics here via the Community Platform.

Technical Assistance training sessions were delivered by The Carbon Trust and Bankers without Boundaries. The recorded sessions and supporting materials will be available to access on the Community Platform through the below links:

  • Place-based Net Zero Planning: Key principles and approaches, The Carbon Trust
  • An Introduction to the Investment Landscape and the Investor Mindset

Kara at Innovate UK gave an update on the next phases of Net Zero Living delivery and potential next steps for the community beyond the programme. Look out for Christian’s blog on the day's activities arriving on the platform soon!

COMMUNITY MONTHLY ONLINE MEETUP

09:00 – 10:00 / 15 August 2024 / Online

ENGAGE: Inviting Residents to Co-create the Vision

Key takeaways from August’s monthly online meetup.

Guest speaker Tessie Britton from the Participatory Cities Foundation shared her work on citizen engagement and the success of a seven-year environmental project in Barking and Dagenham. You can read the report here.

Key learnings from the project demonstrated:

  • Up to 80% of ideas that residents came up with have a relation to Net Zero
  • Citizen Engagement projects should respect and value small actions, invite people to co-create, invest in residents and collaborate with people on equal footing.
  • The environment and net zero are network problems, and they can’t just be solved with a service. It’s the networks of relationships that you build that create friendships and trust to enable people to work on these issues together.

Tessy also shared the Every One Every Moment film during her talk.
